Profhilo®

Profhilo® is a bio-remodelling HA (hyaluronic acid) that unlike traditional dermal fillers doesn’t volumise but instead stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin in the superficial layers of the skin of the face.

Profhilo® has been widely used in Europe since 2015 and was introduced into New Zealand in 2020 and has a very well established safety profile. Profhilo® works through the slow release of both high and low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid.

Dubbed the “injectable moisturiser”, Profhilo involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the skin, into specific points ,called bio-aesthetic points. This means only 5 injections on each side of the face, neck or hands. Profhilo is designed to flow over a larger area and boost hydration into the top layer of the skin, while stimulating the production of elastin and collagen to plump and tighten the skin, it does not change the face shape or add volume in contrast to traditional fillers.

Profhilo is ideal for men and women who have noticed their skin has started to lose its natural firmness and elasticity – a normal result of the ageing process, however smoking, stress and the environment can speed up this ageing process. It is recommended to have 2 Profhilo treatments 4 weeks apart and then a top up once a year but some people like to repeat the treatment 6 monthly.

How long after the treatment of Profhilo until I see results?

Because the treatment is remodelling and hydrating the skin from within, it takes a few weeks to work, so you probably won't start seeing results until after the second treatment. The first treatment stimulates the hydration process and the second treatment further hydrates and ensures longevity.

What are the possible side-effects of a Profhilo treatment?

The common injection related side effects are localised and temporary, and may include one or more of the following: Swelling, redness and/or slight bruising. Occasionally itching, pain/tenderness, or increasing swelling. Rare risks such as blindness, loss of blood supply to an area of skin and infection associated with the filler product have been reported in literature. These are treatable if managed appropriately.
